When the Final Five appeared on the red carpet at the 2016 MTV VMAs this evening, they looked amazing. But one member was clearly missing. Where was Gabby Douglas?

All five gymnasts were originally scheduled to present awards during the ceremony on Sunday night. However, Gabby was forced to drop out after being hospitalized for undisclosed reasons. She shared the sad news on Instagram an hour before the red carpet began.

"Out of the hospital & resting comfortably!" she wrote. She also noted that she was "so sad" to miss the opportunity to present awards at the VMAs along with her teammates.

Gabby had a tougher time at the Olympics than her teammates did; after not qualifying for the all-around finals (as many expected her to do), she received criticism for everything from her hair to not putting her hand over her heart during the Pledge of Allegiance.

"I've been trying to stay off the internet because it is so much negativity," she said last week, according to Yahoo. "When they talk about my hair or me not putting my hand on my heart or me being salty in the stands and, you know, really criticizing me... It doesn't feel good. For me, it was a little bit hurtful."

Hopefully Gabby is just resting up after the Olympics. Don't forget, girl just WON A GOLD MEDAL. She has basically 0.2 seconds off before the Final Five's victory tour in September, so hopefully she's getting a good dose of R&R, so she can get back to doing what she loves best:
