Pastel hair is one of the most popular hair color trends of the last year, but it's not for the faint-hearted. Between touch-ups, bleaching, and haircuts – keeping your hair that perfect shade takes a lot of work. Some people are hoping to skip the fuss (and cost) of going to a salon and are instead turning to boxed dye to get the pastel strands they want.

Hairstylists across the internet are taking a stand against this, warning people not to risk permanently damaging their hair just to save a little money. Their posts are going viral in an attempt to save people from a would-be beauty disaster

Hairstylist and makeup artist Sydniiee Oliveira explained why trying to get pastel hair using an at-home dye kit is such a bad idea.

"Box dyes contain chemicals that don't mix well with other salon chemicals... Whatever you try to do to FIX what this does after you use it, will melt your hair off. I have seen it with my own eyes many times before! Literal heating, smoking, and melting of the hair because [boxed dye] was on it before a color correction had to be done... So use at your own risk and don't be mad when we say 'I told you so.'"

Terrifying. So beauty lovers, might be best to leave the pastel shades to the professionals.
